2A-2 Region III District 9 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Linden-Kildare's Gregg Stephens recorded the longest rushing play in 2A-2 Region III District 9 this season in his game against De Kalb last week. Stephens scampered for 81 yards on the play and finished with 135 on the day as his team lost to the Bears.
Trevor Spear and Christian Smith provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Ore City. The connection was good for 70 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Elysian Fields's dynamic duo of Spear and Smith proved tough for the Rebels to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Spear threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns and Smith had 103 yards receiving.
Elysian Fields' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Yellowjackets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Spear has thrown for 658 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Smith has 11 catches for 272 yards. Tanner Davis leads the league in rushing with 393 yards.
A big matchup in 2A-2 Region III District 9 this week will be when Pewitt takes on Hughes Springs. The Brahmas are in 10th place, while the Mustangs are in first place.
Hughes Springs moved up to 122 from 173 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Chris Edwards' team was able to make the jump by beating New Diana 43-0.
