The Nathan Hale Raiders will venture away from home to take on the Seattle Academy Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Nathan Hale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Nathan Hale didn't have quite enough to beat Roosevelt and fell 5-4.
Nathan Hale saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finn Leach, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5. Josh Earlywine also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seattle Academy). They blew past Rainier Beach 37-2 on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their two-run performance the match before.
Wilder Hilen and Zach Bennett made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hilen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bennett tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hilen also tossed no walks, which is notable because Seattle Academy is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-6 otherwise. At the plate, Hilen went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Bennett scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Those three RBI gave Hilen a new career-high.
In other batting news, Seattle Academy got a massive performance out of Dashiell Story, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and six RBI. Story also scored three runs, which is notable because the Cardinals are undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. William Hendry was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, five RBI, and one stolen base.
Seattle Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .712. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Nathan Hale has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Seattle Academy, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Nathan Hale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Seattle Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
