The Heritage Hills Patriots will take on the Daviess County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Daviess County will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Heritage Hills extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand Mt. Vernon a 10-0 shutout.
Miriam Gordon and Mia Kiegel were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gordon tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Kiegel didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Gordon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Gordon went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Kiegel went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most runs Gordon has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Heritage Hills got a big performance out of Avery Sabelhaus, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Wargel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Heritage Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive games.
Daviess County came out on top against Owensboro on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Red Devils. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by nine runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Briley Henry, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Sadie Morris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Heritage Hills pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Daviess County, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Heritage Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Daviess County struggles in that department as they've averaged .405. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Heritage Hills might still be hurting after the 10-4 defeat they got from Daviess County when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
