Kade Elam made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Corbin's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't).
In other pitching news, Cruz Cima looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Corbin is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 6-7 otherwise.
Elam wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Broughton, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Trey Person also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, West Jessamine made easy work of Burgin on Tuesday and carried off a 13-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Colts.
Hayden Peters looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Gabe Galus and Ryan Disponett did most of the damage at the plate: Galus scored two runs while going 4-for-5, while Disponett went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Disponett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Head, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
West Jessamine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Corbin pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Jessamine, their record is now 5-11-1.
West Jessamine's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Corbin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for West Jessamine, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Corbin's hitters?
Corbin came up short against West Jessamine in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 9-4. Can the Redhounds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
