It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Woodcreek Timberwolves ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Antelope 62-59. Given Woodcreek's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Titans are ranked 300th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Woodcreek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Triplet, who shot 4-for-6 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Triplet is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 20 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Nielsen, who scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Despite the loss, Antelope still got an impressive performance from Logan Melton, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Melton has scored all season. Aj Cook was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Woodcreek is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Antelope, they now have a losing record at 11-12.
Woodcreek will be playing in front of their home fans against the Honkers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Yuba City has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while the Timberwolves will arrive with three straight wins. As for Antelope, they will head out on the road to challenge the Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bella Vista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday.
