Basketball Recap: Conor Whalen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic over Keswick Christian

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Keswick Christian Crusaders on Tuesday. If the Hurricanes were looking for revenge after losing 47-41 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Hurricanes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Conor Whalen, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexavier Dorval-Ferris, who went 7 of 12 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Keswick Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grant Cook out in front who went 8 of 13 on his way to 19 points along with six boards and three steals. Cook is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Bingham, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Keswick Christian, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Academy at the Lakes at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic is facing Academy at the Lakes at the right time seeing as Academy at the Lakes is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Keswick Christian, they will face off against Canterbury at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keswick Christian will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Canterbury will have lost four straight heading into Thursday's contest.
