Softball Game Preview: Ritchie County Rebels vs. South Harrison Hawks

Ritchie County is a perfect 3-0 against South Harrison since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Rebels will be playing at home against the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Ritchie County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: St. Marys, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Ritchie County was ranked 21st). The Rebels never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 2-0 win last Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rebels have posted since April 8, 2024.

The result came thanks to Rocklyn Marcum's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ritchie County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Satterfield, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, South Harrison lost 10-1 to St. Marys on Wednesday. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ritchie County pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for South Harrison, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ritchie County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like South Harrison struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
