Softball Recap: Clear Fork Takes a Loss

Clear Fork dropped their record down to 15-10 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the River Valley Vikings by a score of 12-11. The Colts were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

Presley Lilly put in work no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Katrina Rogers made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Melodie Blubaugh, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for River Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

On River Valley's side, Samantha Woods was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI Woods has posted since back in April. Addi Braun was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs.

Clear Fork and River Valley are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Colts will head out to face off against Shelby at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clear Fork's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Whippets have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for River Valley, they will challenge Heath at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
