2A/1A Conference 6 recap September 17, 2013
Elkin scaled the state rankings by moving to 267 from 299 this week, the biggest jump in 2A/1A Conference 6. The Elks were able to make move up by topping Surry Central 18-7.
Ashe County lost to Hibriten 39-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Will Simpson was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 151 yards as Starmount topped Forbush. Teammate Aaron Skeens added to the ground attack by rushing for 82 yards.
Simpson was a passing and rushing force as the Rams beat the Falcons.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, North Wilkes's LJ Hendren and Josh Bare have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Hendren has thrown for 733 yards this season, while Bare has 18 catches for 381 yards. Starmount's Simpson leads the league in rushing yards with 270.
Alleghany made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,845 from 12,212. The advance stemmed from a 58-41 victory over South Stokes last week.
