Aiken had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-16 to make it nine. They fell 15-12 to the Augusta Christian Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-9 back in March.
Maddie Zeigler made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Zoey George, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Augusta Christian, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games.
On Augusta Christian's side, Bailey Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Brown was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Ethridge, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Sophie Wiley was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Aiken has already played their next game, a 22-0 defeat against Gray Collegiate Academy on the 27th. As for Augusta Christian, they will challenge Heathwood Hall Episcopal at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
