Basketball Recap: Highland Tech Victorious

On Wednesday, the Highland Tech Rams earned a 35-27 win over the Langtree Charter Academy Lions.

It was another big night for Akela Taylor, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, ten rebounds, and 11 steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 11 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Butler, who posted six points along with seven steals and six boards.

Highland Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Langtree Charter Academy had strong showings from Faithful Chambers, who had 13 points, and Myonna Butler, who put up eight points. That was a full 48.1% of Langtree Charter Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Highland Tech is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.8 points per game. As for Langtree Charter Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Highland Tech will welcome Burns at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. As for Langtree Charter Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-19 defeat against Bradford Prep on the 13th.
