Steamboat Springs will be strutting in after a victory while Basalt will be coming in after a defeat.
Steamboat Springs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They managed a 40-34 win over Rifle. The victory was just what Steamboat Springs needed coming off of a 54-18 loss in their prior game.
Among those leading the charge was Hailey Bender, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Tyler King, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Basalt's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight loss. They were dealt a 65-20 loss at the hands of Moffat County. Basalt was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-8.
Steamboat Springs' victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8. As for Basalt, they bumped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Steamboat Springs suffered a grim 43-23 defeat to Basalt when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Steamboat Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
