Sandy Creek has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Tuesday, Sandy Creek suffered a rough 51-27 defeat at the hands of Holdrege. Sandy Creek has struggled against Holdrege recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Sandy Creek had strong showings from Emma Fisher, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds, and Ryleigh Skalka, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Skalka scored a full 40.7% of Sandy Creek's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Wilber-Clatonia, who are still winless after their fourth matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 52-22 loss at the hands of Superior. While losing is never fun, Wilber-Clatonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Superior is ranked 80th).
Sandy Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Wilber-Clatonia, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4.
Sandy Creek and Wilber-Clatonia were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but Sandy Creek came up empty-handed after a 53-52 defeat. Can Sandy Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
