Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only West Central walked away with it. They blew past the Bowman Academy Eagles, posting a 54-20 victory. Considering the Trojans have won nine games by more than 25 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
West Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Drea Villarreal out in front who rushed for 142 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing yards Villarreal has posted since back in August. Connor Huber also helped out as he racked up 105 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 293 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
West Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Huber and Felipe Bazan. Huber got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
West Central's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.0 points on average over those games. As for Bowman Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Coming up, West Central will face off against LaVille at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bowman Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
