The North Gaston Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Cherryville by a score of 41-39. North Gaston was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cherryville apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
North Gaston lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaleila Littlejohn, who scored 17 points. Littlejohn scored a full 43.6% of North Gaston's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Diamonique Jackson, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, North Gaston were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cherryville only pulled down 25 offensive rebounds.
Cherryville was led to victory by Krista Davis and Raylei Gidney. Davis scored 19 points along with six rebounds, while Gidney dropped a double-double on 13 points and 25 rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for Gidney.
North Gaston's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Cherryville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
North Gaston will head out on the road to face off against Huss at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherryville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincolnton at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Lincolnton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Friday.
