7A District 1 recap September 24, 2013
Niceville was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Choctawhatchee. The Eagles came in at 12 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Niceville added to the longest winning streak in 7A District 1 this week by beating the Indians, 56-3. The win marks fourth in a row for the John Hicks' team.
The Eagles' dynamic duo of Ashton Hooker and Jalen Douglas proved to be unstoppable against Choctawhatchee, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hooker threw for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns and Douglas had 72 yards receiving. Tyre McCants helped Niceville's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 59 yards.
Niceville's dynamic duo of Hooker and Douglas proved tough for Greg Thomas' team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Hooker put up the best numbers in passing as the Eagles bested the Indians.
Lavontia Samuel was the best running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 182 yards as Tate topped Choctawhatchee. Teammate Jesse Fernandez added to the ground attack by rushing for 13 yards.
Douglas was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles defeated the Indians.
He went 21-27 with 2 interceptions.
Leading 7A District 1 in both passing and receiving yards, Niceville's Hooker and McCants have proven to be a lethal combination. Hooker has thrown for 941 yards this season, while McCants has 17 catches for 262 yards. Samuel from the Aggies leads the league in rushing with 505 yards.
The Eagles took down Choctawhatchee 56-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hooker ran for 34 yards in the win.
