The Sweet Grass County Sheepherders were the 64-44 winner over the Jefferson Panthers when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Sweet Grass County fell just short of Jefferson by a score of 46-44.
Jefferson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was MacKenzie Layng out in front who scored 21 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Layng has scored at least 25% of Jefferson's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryian Eveland, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Sweet Grass County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Jefferson, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Sweet Grass County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Joliet at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Jefferson, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Three Forks at 6:00 p.m.
