Rocky River is 1-9 against Westlake since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Rocky River's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Valley Forge. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Reagan Kane was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 12 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leigh Konet, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddie Sollars, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Rocky River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Buckeye hit Westlake with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Demons lost 13-4 to the Bucks. The defeat continues a trend for the Demons in their meetings with the Bucks: they've now lost four in a row.
Lindsey Horvath made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Horvath, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Westlake's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6. As for Rocky River, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Westlake's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Rocky River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Westlake, though, as they've been averaging only 2.3 strikeouts. Will Rocky River keep running through batters, or will the Demons buck the trend?
Rocky River couldn't quite get it done against Westlake in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
