Carlsbad has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Las Cruces Bulldawgs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Carlsbad is ranked 26th, while Las Cruces is ranked 11th).
Last Friday, Carlsbad was beaten by Centennial 42-14. Carlsbad was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
Despite the defeat, Carlsbad got a solid performance out of Ulysses Mendoza, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown. Mendoza's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards.
Meanwhile, Las Cruces had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They breezed by Organ Mountain at home to the tune of 42-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Las Cruces just coasted through the last quarter.
Las Cruces' win bumped their season record to 4-4 while Carlsbad's defeat dropped theirs to 2-6.
Carlsbad strolled past Las Cruces in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 21-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Carlsbad since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
