Cuba-Rushford hasn't had much luck against Bolivar-Richburg recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Cuba-Rushford is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Fillmore. Rebels fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Tuesday.
Aubrey Williams made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bolivar-Richburg had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Jaguars. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Rylee Whiting was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Whiting was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayna Thomas, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Kylee Whiting was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Cuba-Rushford's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Bolivar-Richburg, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Cuba-Rushford came up short against Bolivar-Richburg in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
