The Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots are taking a road trip to take on the Escondido Charter Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Academy of Our Lady of Peace has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Escondido Charter will arrive with seven straight wins.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace fell victim to La Costa Canyon and their airtight pitching crew last Monday. They came up short against the Mavericks, falling 7-0.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Gehler, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Escondido Charter won against Santa Fe Christian on Thursday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Tigers didn't even let Foothills Christian on the board, marking the Tigers' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Lilly Harper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Zaliyah Jones was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Rose Gomez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
Escondido Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Escondido Charter pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace skirted past Escondido Charter 3-2 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Do the Pilots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
