It was a good run, but the Kanab Cowboys unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 68-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Sevier. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Kanab still got an impressive performance from Cash Mortensen, who scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mortensen has scored all season. Kyle Brown was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds.
South Sevier got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mackson Bastian out in front who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Bastian scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brace Brindley, who scored 22 points.
Kanab's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5. As for South Sevier, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Kanab will be playing in front of their home fans against North Sevier at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Sevier has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15. South Sevier will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Water Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. The timing isn't great for Water Canyon: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while South Sevier has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
