The Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 11th straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 68-48 walloping at the hands of Golden City. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Jefferson Independent Day has suffered since January 5th.
Despite the loss, Jefferson Independent Day saw an underclassman step up: Kohl Thurman dropped a double-double on 21 points and 19 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Thurman scored 15 or more points. Jack Twiss was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Golden City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Spencer Parrill, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Parrill hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Jamison Menadue, who scored 21 points along with five assists and three steals.
Jefferson Independent Day's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Golden City, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-16.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson Independent Day won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ballard at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Ballard has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. Golden City won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against New Covenant Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. New Covenant Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
