Ann Sobrato has gone 8-2 against Live Oak recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Acorns at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Ann Sobrato took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Santa Teresa, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Saints 10-9 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Amber Rodriguez and Sam Zimmerman were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Rodriguez didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Zimmerman pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Rodriguez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Zimmerman went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Alyssa Nava was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bouton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Ann Sobrato was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Live Oak had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They blew past the Trojans 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Acorns, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Maya Medina spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eden Svoboda, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kayla Tulowitzki was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Live Oak pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Ann Sobrato, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ann Sobrato hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've averaged .425. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ann Sobrato skirted past Live Oak 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Acorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
