The Verdugo Hills Dons will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the North Hollywood Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Verdugo Hills hadn't beaten Chavez on the road since September 14, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them last Thursday. The Dons snuck past the Eagles with a 12-8 win.
Verdugo Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jered Smith, who rushed for 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 153 yards on 13 of 28 attempts. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Aiden Mejia was another key rusher, gaining 131 total yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Hollywood). They blew past Monroe 54-0 last Thursday. The Huskies pushed the score to 41-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings had no chance of recovering from.
North Hollywood's win came from a few key players Verdugo Hills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was LOGAN GRANT, who rushed for 40 yards and one TD, and also threw for 132 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes. Another back making a difference was GAVEN ZAMORA, who rushed for 103 yards and one score on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: North Hollywood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 375 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 219 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to North Hollywood's defense and their four sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut PAUL PENNSON.
Verdugo Hills' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for North Hollywood, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Verdugo Hills was taken down by North Hollywood 42-14 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Will the Dons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
