Fatima is a perfect 7-0 against Russellville since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Comets will face off against the Indians at 1:00 p.m.
Fatima is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since September 25th last Thursday. They came up short against St. Francis Borgia, falling 3-0. The Comets haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-21, 25-9.
Despite the defeat, Fatima saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaylee Berhorst had nine digs and one assist.
Meanwhile, Russellville hadn't done well against Tipton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Indians blew past the Cardinals 3-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
While Russellville won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-18, 26-24.
Fatima better keep an eye on Paige Calvird. She was instrumental in Russellville's win, getting 16 digs. That's the most digs Calvird has posted over her last nine contests.
Fatima's loss dropped their record down to 22-8-1. As for Russellville, they pushed their record up to 21-8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Fatima has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Russellville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fatima was able to grind out a solid victory over Russellville in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
