The Brookfield Warriors struggled with assists on Thursday (the LaBrae Vikings had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Brookfield took a 47-32 bruising from LaBrae. While losing is never fun, Brookfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 639th, while LaBrae is ranked 296th).
Brookfield lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mya Jumper, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Jumper hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Cailey Wellman, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
LaBrae's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Rowe, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Rowe has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Ella Kuszmaul was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six steals.
Brookfield dropped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for LaBrae, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brookfield will take on Memorial at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday. As for LaBrae, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Liberty at 6:00 p.m.
