Central hasn't had much luck against Andrew Jackson recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Volunteers at 6:30 p.m. Central's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Andrew Jackson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Central's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Chesterfield. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The result came thanks to Landon Crawford's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Central secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Logan Olney, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Another was Cody Branham, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson came up short against West Florence on Friday, falling 13-3. The Volunteers haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
The victory made it two in a row for Central and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Andrew Jackson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Andrew Jackson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Central couldn't quite finish off Andrew Jackson in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
