The Ralston Valley Mustangs kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell to Pine Creek 48-42. Ralston Valley lost against Pine Creek in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 36-28 score last time.
Despite the loss, Ralston Valley had strong showings from Santana Sabus, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Sophia Sabus, who scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pine Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brooklyn Stewart, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alli Dreessen, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds.
Ralston Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Pine Creek, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Ralston Valley will face off against Vista PEAK Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pine Creek, they will take on Windsor at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Windsor will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Pine Creek is ranked 21st).
