Manheim Central and Lampeter-Strasburg are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Barons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Manheim Central will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Manheim Central came out on top against Cocalico on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Barons were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Eagles. The Barons haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Cam Thompson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Groff, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Manheim Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Lampeter-Strasburg nor Lebanon made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Pioneers fell 5-2 to the Cedars. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Pioneers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Lampeter-Strasburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Tipping, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Brayden Hart also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Manheim Central's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manheim Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lampeter-Strasburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Manheim Central was able to grind out a solid win over Lampeter-Strasburg when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. Will the Barons repeat their success, or do the Pioneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
