Preston is 0-7 against Hillcrest since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Preston Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Hillcrest Knights at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Preston sitting on eight straight victories and Hillcrest on five.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Preston ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They snuck past Blackfoot with a 70-66 win. Given Preston's advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Blackfoot is ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hillcrest posted their biggest victory since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They blew past Shelley 76-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Hillcrest has posted against Shelley since February 22, 2020.
Hillcrest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ike Sutton led the charge by scoring 19 points along with six assists. Sutton is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Talan Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Preston has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Hillcrest, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home.
Preston couldn't quite finish off Hillcrest in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 and fell 56-53. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Taylor, who scored 24 points along with three steals.
