Mt. Zion has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Mt. Zion Braves and the Carbondale Terriers will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Hopefully Mt. Zion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 14 to 6 on the offensive boards, a fact Mt. Zion proved. They came out on top against Tolono Unity by a score of 41-28. Given Mt. Zion's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Tolono Unity is ranked 313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mt. Zion got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Denver Anderson out in front who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Anderson's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Turner, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and six blocks.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Carbondale had to settle for a 46-44 defeat against Benton on Thursday.
Mt. Zion has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Carbondale, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
