The McDonald County Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Neosho Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
McDonald County suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Friday. 2024 welcomed they with a 76-51 loss courtesy of Carthage. While losing is never fun, McDonald County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while Carthage is ranked 70th).
Meanwhile, Neosho's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They suffered a tough 78-54 defeat at the hands of Willard. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Neosho has suffered against Willard since January 11, 2019.
Neosho's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Collier Hendricks, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Colton Southern who scored 14 points. Kanten Smith was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
McDonald County has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Neosho, they bumped their record down to 4-10 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
McDonald County suffered a grim 61-36 defeat to Neosho when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for McDonald County, Isaiah Green (who scored 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
