Basketball Recap: Burney Comes Up Short

After flying high against Herlong last Saturday, Burney came back down to earth. The Burney Raiders were outmatched by the Plumas Charter Warriors and fell 69-41. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 86-36 last Thursday.

Despite the defeat, Burney saw an underclassman step up: sophomore James Fields dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fields has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cort Covert, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points.

Dalton Bentz was his usual excellent self, shooting 7-for-11 from long range and dropping a double-double on 36 points and 14 boards for Plumas Charter. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bentz has scored at least a third of Plumas Charter's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Joseph, who posted eight points along with eight assists and seven steals.

Burney's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Plumas Charter, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.

Burney didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-44 defeat against Chester on the 20th. As for Plumas Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-30 victory against Surprise Valley on the 20th.
