Barren County is 8-2 against Allen County-Scottsville since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Allen County-Scottsville will be up against a hot Barren County squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. The Trojans blew past Warren East 10-4 on Tuesday. Barren County's victory was all the more impressive since the Raiders were averaging only 3.67 runs allowed on the season.
Shea Bogue was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Bogue was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Norah Shirley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Briley Aidala was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Allen County-Scottsville won against Russell County on Monday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Patriots never let Bowling Green get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Purples: they've now won six in a row.
Like Barren County, Allen County-Scottsville also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooklyn Oliver. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.1 innings pitched. Oliver has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacie Rice, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had over her last eight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiloh Knievel, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Allen County-Scottsville's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Barren County, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Barren County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Allen County-Scottsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .420. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Barren County's way against Allen County-Scottsville when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Barren County made off with a 17-3 victory. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
