WALNUT COVE, N.C. -
South Stokes (Walnut Cove, N.C.) received a huge boost from its defense against Surry Central (Dobson, N.C.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Surry Central (Dobson, N.C.), 52-14.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Jacquan Martin in the first quarter, the Sauras led 32-7 at the half.
South Stokes expanded its lead to 32 points entering the fourth quarter. SS scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
JJ Davis.
Christian Artis and Martin ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Golden Eagles. Artis scored two touchdowns on the ground and Martin added three as well.
Surry Central's Wes Brown played well. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to two on the year.
The Walnut Cove school had given up an average of 15.7 points prior to the contest. SC's 14 points were well below its season average of 23.9 per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Dobson school took, 36-15.
The loss comes after Surry Central defeated North Stokes 49-15 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for the Sauras, which lost to Mount Airy last week, 35-13.
