Atkinson County has enjoyed the comforts of home their last seven games, but now they'll head out on the road. They and the Charlton County Indians will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Atkinson County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully the Indians like a good challenge.
After soaring to a 20-point victory in their last game, Atkinson County came back down to earth on Saturday. They fell just short of Clinch County by a score of 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Atkinson County has suffered since November 17, 2023.
Atkinson County's loss came about despite a quality game from Savanna Williams, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ja'Kari Northcutt, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Charlton County didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Buccaneers on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 48-44 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Charlton County.
It was another big night for Mahogany Steele, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for seven straight games. Rihanna Battle was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Atkinson County's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-7. As for Charlton County, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12.
Atkinson County strolled past the Indians when the teams last played back in January by a score of 61-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Atkinson County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
