The Fleming County Panthers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 72-58 win over Russell. Given Fleming County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Russell is ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Russell saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Rimmer dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Elijah Neel was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Fleming County's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.6 points per game. As for Russell, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Fleming County will be home for the holidays to greet Catholic at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Fleming County likes a good challenge. Russell will take on Spring Valley in a holiday battle at 4:45 p.m. on Friday at. Spring Valley is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
