The Westlake Warriors will challenge the Agoura Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Westlake didn't have quite enough to beat Venice and fell 4-3.
Emma Tedder was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Westlake saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Barrett, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Agoura's hitters rose to the challenge against a Lancers pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.08 runs allowed on Thursday. The Chargers blew past Thousand Oaks 11-1. Considering the Chargers have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Aly Chavez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mia Gomez was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Amaya Del Olmo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Agoura kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Agoura has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Westlake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Westlake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Agoura struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Westlake suffered a grim 15-6 defeat to Agoura when the teams last played back in April. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
