Ames added to the longest winning streak in 4A Division 2 this week by beating Johnston, 41-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Little Cyclones.
Des Moines North fell to Ankeny 50-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Dragons' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mike Mahanna threw for 132 yards and Andrew Heuss had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Weddington contributed 74 yards. Nick Stitzell helped Johnston's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.
Heuss was the best receiver in the league this week as Johnston lost to Ames. Heuss racked up 4 receptions for 83 yards. Stitzell helped Johnston's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.
Johnston's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Dragons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Mahanna has thrown for 1,413 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Heuss has 40 catches for 832 yards.
Sioux City North made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,933 from 7,645. The improvement was the result of a 62-39 victory over Fort Dodge last week.
