Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 9 on the offensive boards, a fact the Gulliver Prep Raiders proved on Thursday. They slipped by NSU University 46-45. This was payback for Gulliver Prep, who suffered a 51-41 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading Gulliver Prep to victory were Caitlen Dauphin and Mikayla Brown. Dauphin dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Brown scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Gulliver Prep's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicole Quevedo, who scored six points along with three steals.
Several Sharks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kimora Exum, who scored 18 points along with seven steals. Exum hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Tatum Billie was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Gulliver Prep's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for NSU University, they dropped their record down to 8-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Gulliver Prep's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Schoolhouse Prep at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. As for NSU University, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Archbishop McCarthy at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Archbishop McCarthy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
