Section 5 Freelance recap Sept. 26, 2012
Eastridge extended the longest winning streak in Section 5 Freelance this week by beating Greece Athena, 7-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Aquinas Institute and McQuaid Jesuit played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Aquinas Institute eventually emerging with a 6-3 victory. Donato Clemente ran for 48 yards and caught one passes for 27 yards in the win.
The Little Irish's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Zembiec threw for 103 yards and Alonzo Turney had 49 yards receiving. Alex Bianchi helped Aquinas Institute's passing attack out by catching five balls for 27 yards.
Aquinas Institute's Zembiec and Turney have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zembiec has thrown for 295 yards this season, while Turney, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 12 catches for 151 yards. Alec Mortillaro from Eastridge leads the league in rushing with 470 yards.
Batavia made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,472 from 5,908. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 22-12 victory over Albion last week.
