Baseball Recap: Blue Ridge Wins Going Away Against Front Royal Homeschool

Blue Ridge barely beat Front Royal HomeSchool the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Jays were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Flames on Friday. The Jays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

Lochlan 'Bear' Paul made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Blue Ridge's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Dominic Paul was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Blue Ridge is undefeated when Paul posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Alex Showalter was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Blue Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Blue Ridge pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Front Royal HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Coming up, Blue Ridge will face off against Fairfax HomeSchool at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Front Royal HomeSchool, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 16-9 loss against Randolph-Macon Academy on the 12th.
