Sheboygan North is 0-9 against Ashwaubenon since May of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Golden Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Jaguars at 9:00 a.m. Sheboygan North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Sheboygan North turned things around against Howards Grove on Friday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Tigers.
Haley Bergstrom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Bella Wagner and Paige Oehldrich did most of the damage at the plate: Wagner went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Oehldrich went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Oehldrich has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ava Brashaw, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ashwaubenon faced Green Bay Preble in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Jaguars fell 5-0 to the Hornets. Considering the last time the Jaguars couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Ashwaubenon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elly Kirst, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Ashwaubenon's defeat ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-2. As for Sheboygan North, their win bumped their record up to 4-10.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sheboygan North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. However, it's not like Ashwaubenon struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sheboygan North couldn't quite get it done against Ashwaubenon when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Golden Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
