Basketball Recap: Willow Spring Skates Past Fuquay - Varina with Ease

Willow Spring won the last time they faced Fuquay - Varina and things went their way on Friday too. The Willow Spring Storm claimed a resounding 52-16 win over the Fuquay - Varina Bengals. Given the Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Bengals are ranked 422nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willow Spring was led to victory by Taylor Gray and Amanda Mitchell. Gray dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards, while Mitchell dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. Gray's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Layla Mitchell, who posted six points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Willow Spring smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January.

Fuquay - Varina's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Chloe Webb, who had eight points, and Abigail Meaney, who put up five points and six rebounds.

Willow Spring is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Fuquay - Varina, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Willow Spring is taking a road trip to face off against Garner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Garner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season. As for Fuquay - Varina, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-29 victory against Enloe on the 17th.
