Melbourne is a perfect 10-0 against Bayside since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Melbourne's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Bayside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Melbourne took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Eau Gallie, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Commodores 3-2 on Friday. The game was the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Commodores on their field since March 30, 2022.
Melbourne's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Conner, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Bayside got the win against Brevard HEAT on Friday by a conclusive 12-2. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Firehawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Sam Welte and Elvin Pascaul made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Welte tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Pascaul pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Welte scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Pascaul fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Welte has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Folstein, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isiah Edwards, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Bayside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brevard HEAT only posted a batting average of .238.
Melbourne is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bayside, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.
Melbourne beat Bayside 3-0 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
