The Northern Valley Huskies came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Golden Plains 42-39. For Northern Valley, this counts as revenge for the 47-19 defeat the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Northern Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mary Baird out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Bina, who scored seven points along with 17 rebounds and seven blocks.
Northern Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Golden Plains, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northern Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Thunderhawks at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Wheatland-Grinnell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Golden Plains, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Cheylin is ranked 222nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 203rd).
