Southfield Christian and Inter-City Baptist are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Eagles will face off against the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
On Friday, Southfield Christian made easy work of Redford Union and carried off a 17-2 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Chloe Schoon and Sarah Sherry made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Schoon tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sherry pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Schoon went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI, while Sherry went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taniya Hall, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Bella Thomas was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Inter-City Baptist). They put the hurt on Oakland Christian with a sharp 19-8 win on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly 11 runs.
Chloe Smith was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two triples. Those triples were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Harrison, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Inter-City Baptist always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Southfield Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Inter-City Baptist, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southfield Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 15 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Inter-City Baptist struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southfield Christian couldn't quite finish off Inter-City Baptist when the teams last played back in May of 2017 and fell 8-6. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
