The Perkiomen Valley Vikings will take on the Boyertown Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Perkiomen Valley sitting on six straight victories and Boyertown on four.
Perkiomen Valley's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Spring-Ford, sneaking past 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Meanwhile, Boyertown got the win against Upper Perkiomen on Thursday by a conclusive 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kyra Neiswender spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Boyertown let Lindsay Mathias and Rielynn Carey run wild. Mathias went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI, while Carey went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Carey has posted since back in March. Taylor Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Boyertown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Perkiomen Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Boyertown, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Perkiomen Valley skirted past Boyertown 3-1 in their previous matchup on April 1st. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
