The Bridges Prep Buccaneers are taking a road trip to challenge the Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bridges Prep has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bridges Prep is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Edisto, falling 24-8.
Mallorie Brown made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillie Prater, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Even though they lost, Bridges Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edisto only posted a batting average of .273.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lowcountry Leadership, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over St. John's on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the NaviGators needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Harley Winn was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She also tossed a walk, marking her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Becky Gaskins was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Maddie Priester also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Lowcountry Leadership's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bridges Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bridges Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .621. However, it's not like Lowcountry Leadership struggles in that department as they've averaged .573. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bridges Prep might still be hurting after the 18-6 loss they got from Lowcountry Leadership when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can Bridges Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
